Mary Mary’s Reality TV Show Debut Review
The anticipation for this show was built up complete with screenings and a solid media campaign. So, what’s the fan verdict on the show? I think it was a pretty decent show. With reviews out there that state that the show lacked that reality luster we are used to seeing from the Braxtons or the Real Housewives franchise, I’d have to say that these ladies are not supposed to be full of that kind of drama as gospel singers. With that being said…on to the review.
I’m ready to see what kind of tension develops between Mitch (the manager) and Goo Goo (the sister stylist). Viewers can tell right off the rip that Mitch obviously has an issue with Goo Goo. I’m glad that the dress arrived to the venue on time and that it fit Erica.
The show highlights some interesting Mary Mary facts such as:
The ladies have a problem arriving on time – we’ll see how big of a deal as the show unfolds
They are not always wigged, snatched, and beat when they travel or do interviews. It was refreshing to see their real hair and no makeup. I applaud Erica and Tina for allowing us to see them in their natural state.
Tina showed us that she has a hard shell, but underneath it all, there is a caring and sensitive mother that I think we’ll grow to love. She is a far cry from the tough talking Sunday Best Judge. I think she is a driven young lady who knows what she wants and understands that it takes focus and determination to get there. I thought the moment with her daughter was touching. I couldn’t imagine having to tell a child that I wouldn’t be able to be there on Thanksgiving and that I’d miss their big moment at school. Tina seems to be an excellent mother and it shines through on camera. I thought it was interesting that she calls her husband “Husband”.
Erica’s pregnancy was tough, but she is a tough lady. Her family is important to her and the way she lights up when they are around was a joy to see. I’m interested to see how she copes with the contractions and the news from the doctor on slowing down. I had no idea that her hair was black under all that blonde. She still has the best hair in gospel music so whoever is making her wigs needs to create a wig line.
I had no idea that Atlanta was Mary Mary’s biggest media market and fan base. It was great to know that information and good to see them stopping in at Praise 102.5 to interview with Darlene McCoy. Gospel artists have to take an interest in their careers and appearances are a part of that.
Erica and Tina kept referring to laying down “Erica” or “Tina” to become a “Mary” or a “mother”. It sounded a little strange… but we’ll see.
