Showing love to your heart is as easy as 1-2-3….4-5-6-7!  Health, Medical & Wellness Expert, Nurse Alice Benjamin, has teamed up with the American Heart Association (AHA) to share “Life’s Simple 7″ tips to check, change and control your heart health.

Heart disease is the No.1 killer for all Americans and the most common conditions that increase the risks of heart disease are high blood pressure, obesity and diabetes – all conditions that disproportionately affect African Americans. According to the AHA:

  • The prevalence of high blood pressure (hypertension) for African Americans is the highest in the world.
  • Among non-Hispanic blacks age 20 and older, 63 percent of men and 77 percent of women are overweight or obese.
  • African-Americans are nearly twice as likely to have diabetes as non-Hispanic whites. In fact, about 15 percent of all African-Americans age 20 and older have the disease.
