An East Cleveland Police officer killed in a car crash on Sunday has been identified.
East Cleveland Police said the crash happened at Terrace Road and Stanwood Road at about 2:31 p.m.
Police said officers were responding to a different incident when they heard what sounded like a car crash nearby.
When officers rushed to the scene, they found a man and a woman in the car.
The man, identified as 14-year East Cleveland Police veteran Anthony Joiner, was taken to University Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
“Everyone in East Cleveland lost a friend today,” said East Cleveland Mayor Gary Norton.
