Fourth of July is arguably one of the BEST holidays: Friends, fireworks and freedom, what could possibly go wrong?
The Cleveland APL wants to remind people that while they should have a great time this weekend, they shouldn’t forget to keep their pets safe and comfortable during the holiday commotion.
Here are four tips from the Cleveland APL to care for your pets :
- Never use fireworks around pets: Exposed flames like fireworks can lead to burns and/or severe trauma for your furry friends. Many fireworks contain harmful chemicals and poisonous substances.
- Leave your pets at home for fireworks: Even though many Americans enjoy the ear-splitting boom and flash of light of firework displays, pets do not. Do your buddy a favor and leave him or her in the comfort of your home while you go out and enjoy the show. If fireworks can be heard outside from inside the house, ABC News talks about the importance of distracting pets with treats or toys to help keep them happy during the noise.
- Keep matches and lighter fluid out of your pets’ reach: Curious pets could end up severe health problems if they ingest lighter fluid. Keep dangerous materials away from pets and out of reach.
